West Nyack, New York – Louise Duffy (née Higgins), the cherished owner and operator of Café Diem in West Nyack, tragically passed away on November 20, 2024, after a courageous battle with synovial sarcoma cancer. She was 42 years old.
Louise, born on September 10, 1982, in Dundalk, Ireland, was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her death. She leaves behind her husband, Ruairi Duffy, and their five children, Nicole, Emma, Jane, Shea, and Leo. Louise was also a devoted grandmother to her grandchild, Amelia.
Known for her warmth, generosity, and vibrant personality, Louise built Café Diem into a beloved community hub where people felt welcomed and at home. She was admired for her resilience, especially during her illness, and her positive spirit touched all who knew her.
"Louise’s legacy of love, kindness, and community will never be forgotten," said local friend Clodagh Gormally on social media.
A funeral service will be held at St. Aedan R.C. Church on Monday, November 25, 2024, followed by burial at Rockland Cemetery. The family has requested attendees wear colorful attire to celebrate Louise’s vibrant life.
